Dr Neal Evans | MBBS FRCA FFPMRCA

Dr Neal Evans is a full-time Pain Medicine consultant. He is currently the Clinical Lead for Pain Medicine for Buckinghamshire NHS Trust. After qualifying from the Royal London Hospital, he trained in Anaesthesia, transferring to Cambridge to work in Intensive Care Medicine. He then moved to Oxford before going on to train in Pain Medicine as a sub-speciality, becoming a Founding Fellow in the Faculty of Pain Medicine in 2007.

Neal treats a wide spectrum of inflammatory joint and muscle conditions, nerve entrapments as well as with more complex chronic pain pathology, including headaches and migraine treatment. He specialises in pelvic and spinal interventional pain working closely with other specialists from spinal and orthopaedic surgery, neurology, sports medicine, gynaecology and urology, as well as physical therapists as part of a multi-disciplinary team managing complex cases.

Neal believes that treating patients with chronic pain starts with an accurate diagnosis leading to a specific treatment pathway and a better understanding of the pain experienced by the patient. He combines accurate history taking and careful physical examination alongside the use of MRI, CT, ultrasound scans and X-rays to establish a precise diagnosis wherever possible to guide therapy. Giving the patients a clearer explanation of the underlying cause of their pain, he aims to work with them to formulate detailed treatment plans.

Neal was the Oxford Regional Advisor in Pain Medicine to the Royal College of Anaesthetists from 2007-10, coordinating training in Pain Medicine within the region. He is currently a tutor for the Royal College of Anaesthetists, regularly teaching and lecturing both nationally and internationally, and is the Clinical Lead for Pain Medicine at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
